President Trump addressed the nation last night on border security and the government shutdown. The President called the situation at our southern border a “growing humanitarian and security crisis”, a “A crisis of the heart and a crisis of the soul” and said it was a “cycle of human suffering” that he is determined to end. Trump’s message was on point and consistent with what he’s been telling the American people since he began his campaign to become President. We need border security. The President has said repeatedly that he doesn’t want to ban immigration into the U.S. but wants to make sure immigrants come here legally. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer responded minutes after the President concluded his address. Their response reminded me of one of the courtroom scenes in the movie My Cousin Vinny “Everything that guy just said is bulls*it. Thank you”.
Psychology Today speculates that Trump Derangement Syndrome may be a legitimate mental condition. In one of the worst cases of Trump Derangement Syndrome we’ve seen Democratic Senators Cory Booker and Robert Menendez along with Democratic Congressmen Albio Sires and Donald Payne Jr held a news conference at Newark Liberty International Airport today. In an apparent attempt to sway opinion before President Trump’s address tonight Menendez told the press that the President’s address should come with a warning to viewers that “the comments you are about to hear are not based on fact and are likely to include misinformation, blatant lies and fear mongering”. It seems to me that it is Menendez, Booker, Sires and Payne who are pandering to the uninformed with misinformation, blatant lies and fear mongering.
In the overnight hours of December 26, 2018 33- year old Newman California Police Officer Ronil Singh was killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop. Gustavo Perez Arriaga an illegal immigrant from Mexico with a prior criminal record, active warrants for his arrest and who is a member of the Sureños street gang was arrested in Officer Singh’s death. Police said Officer Singh pulled Perez Arriaga over for suspicion of drunk driving when Arriaga opened fire killing Officer Singh.
While New Jersey Governor Murphy and his family are spending their Christmas vacation in Tanzania his Facebook and Twitter feeds were very active Thursday. Murphy’s accounts sent out a series of posts touting his first year “accomplishments”. I don’t believe most New Jerseyans consider any part of Murphy’s agenda “accomplishments”. Murphy’s vision continues to be wrong for New Jersey. Expect Murphy to double down in 2019 including pushing for “legalized” marijuana, a $15 minimum wage and driver licenses for illegal immigrants. Also expect New Jersey to begin to resemble Detroit as Murphy pushes the revenue generators, job creators and law abiding citizens of the state.
Today Governor Murphy highlighted his accomplishments from his first year in office live on YouTube from the St. James A.M.E Church in Newark. What Murphy considers “accomplishments” most New Jerseyans I talk to consider further degradation of our state. Our Governor appears to take every opportunity he can to get his face on video. I often wonder if he wants to be Governor or a social media celebrity. I found it telling that no members of the legislature joined Murphy for his self promoting year in review speech. Murphy did a good job playing to his Newark audience. I lost count how many times he said “people of color”.
We knew it was coming. Murphy campaigned on making New Jersey a sanctuary state. Just a couple of weeks ago Attorney General Grewal said he would hand down new sanctuary rules and directives on how New Jersey’s law enforcement agencies should interact with ICE. At the time I asked why New Jersey’s Governor and Attorney General do not feel they have to enforce the law. I also pointed out at the time that Murphy and Grewal’s refusal to cooperate with federal law enforcement to enforce immigration laws is costing the state $16 billion in federal funding. Today is the day New Jersey became a sanctuary state. Knowing it was coming doesn’t make my anger any less.
It was an interesting week in New Jersey from the $15 minimum wage moving forward to the state’s failed response to a relatively small snow event.
Why is it that New Jersey’s Governor and top state law enforcement officer do not feel the need to comply with federal law? We’ve had to stand by and watch Murphy and Grewal put a halt on marijuana prosecutions despite marijuana continuing both federally illegal and illegal in the State of New Jersey. Now Murphy and Grewal appear to be following through on Murphy’s campaign promise to make New Jersey a sanctuary state while defying federal immigration laws and blocking federal law enforcement offers from doing their jobs.
I read an article on the NJ 101.5 web site today entitled “NJ rally demands driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants“. The article further demonstrates the deterioration of New Jersey under Governor Murphy. It’s becoming glaringly obvious that there may be no New Jersey left for those of us who believe we are a nation of laws and expect our government to enforce those laws.
