The 2019 elections have passed. Now it’s time for Governor Murphy to further his radical agenda.

The New Jersey Legislature began its lame-duck session yesterday.  It’s expected that the Legislature will be busy trying to bring forward controversial bills that they didn’t want to move forward before the 2019 election to not damage Democratic candidates and before the new session begins in January in hopes the voters will forget by the 2020 election.  Those bills will most likely include driver licenses for illegal immigrants, “legalized” marijuana (marijuana cannot be legalized on a state level while remaining federally illegal), and banning single use plastics.  Expect Murphy to move his radical agenda forward knowing that voters have short memories and will forget before the 2020 election and before he is up for re-election in 2021.

What appears first on the agenda is driver licenses for illegal immigrants which Governor Murphy has called a “no brainer” and Senate President Steve Sweeney (D, Gloucester) has said he supports.  Senate Bill S3229 would allow “residents unable to prove lawful presence in the US to receive permits, and standard driver’s licenses or identification cards”.  State Senator Teresa Ruiz (D, Essex) one of the sponsors of the bill said “Offering undocumented immigrants a pathway to a legal driver’s license would reduce their chances of encountering legal troubles while trying to make  living”.

In May Republican State Senator Christopher Connors, Assemblyman Brian Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne Gove issued a statement opposing driver licenses to those who cannot “prove lawful presence in the United States”.  The statement read in part “Since this issue was first raised during the Corzine administration, our delegation has maintained its vehement opposition to giving driver’s licenses to illegal aliens”.  The lawmakers said they received complaints from outraged constituents about New Jersey issuing driver licenses to illegal immigrants and “Notwithstanding that this is an inappropriate use of limited public resources, there are the serious homeland security issues at stake which simply cannot be disregarded”  They said it would be “completely irresponsible and negligent for New Jersey to circumvent proven, effective policies instituted to protect public safety.

The bill has support of Democrat lawmakers including Deputy Majority Leader Assemblywoman Annette Quijano (D, Union) and Assemblyman Gary Shaer (D, Passaic) who said “we will make New Jersey a place where everyone is welcome”.   State Senator Nellie Pou (D, Passaic) “We are doing this because it’s the right thing to do and now is the time to do that.  Some of the many undocumented communities have been patiently waiting, pushing, organizing and preparing”.  “Research shows that unlicensed drivers are 10 times more likely than licensed ones to flee the scenes of a motor vehicle collision” Pou said.

It is with good reason that unlicensed and illegal immigrants should flee the scene of an accident.  Because they are breaking the law and should fear arrest!  Unfortunately we live in a state that refuses to enforce the law or cooperate with federal law enforcement.

I highly recommend that those who oppose driver licensed for illegal immigrants contact legislators by clicking HERE.   Tell your legislators that they are in Trenton to represent you and you oppose driver licenses for illegal immigrants.

Murphy Hands

“Legalizing” marijuana for recreational use may also be on the agenda.  State Senate President Steve Sweeney (D, Gloucester) pulled a bill in March when it appeared it would not have the 21 votes needed to move to the upper chamber.  Leading up to the 2019 election Democratic lawmakers appear to have tabled the controversial bill but it’s believed it will resurface during the lame-duck session.  “Legalized” marijuana was a key campaign promise when Murphy ran for Governor and the reason many believe he was elected.  Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin (D, Middlesex) have both indicated they support another attempt at “legalizing” marijuana.

Democrats spent more than a year debating “legalizing” marijuana and held numerous hearings.  In this case state law does not trump (pun intended) federal law.  Every state that has “legalized” marijuana has done so in direct violation of federal law.  “Legalized” marijuana does not exist in the United States.  Despite some form of marijuana laws passed by individual states (laws regarding “legalized” marijuana, “decriminalizing” marijuana and “legalized” medical marijuana) marijuana is illegal under federal law (see the Controlled Substance Ace (CSA) (21 U.S.C. § 811)).  Under federal law marijuana is treated like every other controlled substance, such as cocaine and heroin.  Under the Controlled Substances Act marijuana is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, which means that the federal government views marijuana as highly addictive.  Federal marijuana laws are very serious and punishment for people found guilty is frequently very severe. Federal law considers marijuana a dangerous illegal drug.  Democrats in the State Legislature are wasting our time and tax dollars debating a bill they cannot legally pass.

Banning single use plastics may also be on the agenda.  Governor Murphy vetoed a bill in August 2018 saying it didn’t go far enough.  Now State Senator Bob Smith (D, Middlesex) wants to introduce a bill that would ban single use plastic bags at stores and restaurants along with foam containers and plastic straws.  According to a Monmouth University poll only 31% of New Jerseyans supported a ban on single use plastics while 27% supported the idea of a small fee.  Again the Democrat controlled New Jersey Legislature is spending time on something that a majority of New Jerseyans do not support.

Elected Democrat representatives continue to show us that they do not operate in the best interest of tax paying middle-class citizens yet we continue to elect them  Why?  Why do we re-elect representatives who have an ideology that is not in the best interest of the people they are elected to represent?  By continuing to give Democrats a majority in the New Jersey Legislature we’ve allowed Governor Murphy to move his radical agenda forward.  We are as much to blame as the Governor.

Stand up New Jersey!  Tell Governor Murphy and the Democrat controlled Legislature that we’re as mad as Hell and we’re not going to take this anymore!
