Governor Murphy continues to use your tax dollars in his political war against Washington. Are there not enough problems in NJ for him to focus on?

Eleven days ago we reported that New Jersey had joined a lawsuit against the trump Administration over the President’s public charge immigration rule.  At the time we pointed out that New Jersey had been involved in seven law suits against the U.S. government and/or the Trump Administration in seven months and asked the question when will Governor Murphy and Attorney General Grewal stop using our tax dollars in their political war against Washington?  Yesterday we were given our answer when New Jersey joined the eighth lawsuit against Washington in seven months.

On Monday it was announced that New Jersey has joined 18 other states in suing over the Department of Homeland Security’s new rule that permits the government to hold immigrant children in detention centers indefinitely.  A 1997 agreement known as the Flores settlement states that immigrant children will be kept in the least restrictive setting and shouldn’t spend more than 20 days in detention.  The new rule, set to take effect in 60-days, will remove court oversight and allow families  to remain in detention for longer than 20 days.

Governor Murphy called the decision “a profoundly cruel and harmful practice.  “The Trump Administration’s repeated punishment of immigrant children must end now.  New Jersey is committed to preventing this rule from going into practice and fighting to end this shameful chapter of American history”.  Attorney General Grewal said.  “The administration is once again treating immigrant families and immigrant children in particular in ways that are illegal and immoral”

Murphy and Grewal’s “outrage” is transparent as they frequently are outspoken critics of President Trump and use any opportunity available to them to waste our tax dollars in their political war against Washington.  In February New Jersey joined a lawsuit filed against the Trump Administration to block the President’s emergency declaration to build a wall at our southern border.  In March New Jersey joined a lawsuit over a regulatory opinion issued by the Trump administration regarding online gaming.  In April New Jersey joined a lawsuit over the Administration’s decision to ease restrictions on power plants.  In June New Jersey joined a lawsuit against the Trump Administration regarding children being separated from their illegal immigrant parents at the southern border.  In July New Jersey joined a lawsuit claiming that the federal government does not adequately regulate asbestos.   Also in July New Jersey sued the IRS and Treasury Department over the SALT deduction cap.  This month New Jersey has joined a lawsuit against the trump administration over the President’s public charge immigration rule (a change that will save American tax payers $2.27 billion a year in public assistance to immigrants) and now this latest lawsuit over the Department of Homeland Security’s new rule that permits the government to hold immigrant children in detention centers indefinitely.  If you’ve lost count that is eight lawsuits in seven months.

It should be apparent by now to both Murphy and Grewal that the people of New Jersey are not in support of New Jersey becoming a sanctuary state, their “Immigrant Trust Directive”, millions of dollars in tax payer money for college tuition for illegal immigrants and millions of dollars in tax payer money for the legal defense of illegal immigrants facing detention or deportation.  While Murphy and Grewal double-down on their efforts to protect criminal illegal immigrants Cape May and Monmouth County Sheriffs have been cooperating with ICE against Murphy and AG Grewal’s directive and Ocean County voted to sue the Murphy administration over the directive.

Murphy and his appointed AG Grewal swore to serve the people of New Jersey not waste our tax dollars in their political war against Washington and opposing federal immigration laws (laws that existed long before President Trump took office).  While Murphy and Grewal are spending millions in a tax payer funded war against Washington Murphy is vetoing spending that would benefit New Jersey residents such as road projects, $4.6 million in aid to Stockton University and $4 million a year to protect tourism at the Jersey Shore.

New Jersey has challenges of it’s own.  Property taxes are out of control.  We have a serious drug epidemic.  We are the number one state people leave.  We’ve been rated among the worst states to do business.  Jobs are leaving the state.  Tourism at the Jersey Shore is down.  Crime is rampant.  Newark’s water is polluted.  NJ Transit is a mess.  This only scratches the surface of the problems facing New Jersey yet our Governor and Attorney General are focused on using your tax dollars on their political war against Washington rather than improving the lives of New Jerseyans.  It is time for Murphy and Grewal to serve the citizens they swore to serve and stop wasting our tax dollars on their political war against Washington.
