In case you didn’t already know New Jersey’s Democratic leadership is hypocritical.

I have found myself angry many times over the past 13-months since since Governor Murphy took office.  There may not have been a time when I was more angry then this morning when I learned that New Jersey is 1 of 16 states that joined a lawsuit filed Monday against President Trump to block his emergency declaration to build the wall.  New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal who was appointed by Murphy said in a Tweet “The only emergency today is a President who refuses to adhere to the rule of law”.  This of course coming from the AG who released his Immigrant Trust Directive last year making New Jersey a sanctuary state, refusing to cooperate with ICE and defying federal immigration law.  Murphy even budged $2.1 million for the legal defense of illegal immigrants facing detention or deportation (monies to fight the federal government in its efforts to enforce federal law).

On Monday Grewal told NJ Advance Media “As the chief law enforcement officer for New Jersey, I have a duty to stand up for New Jersey’s residents – including our immigrant community and so I’m joining states across the country in challenging this emergency declaration in court”.

Grewal Tweet

New Jersey’s Democratic Governor, Democratic Legislature and Democrat appointed Attorney General have flagrantly ignored the rule of federal law over the past year.  Why are the citizens of New Jersey not filing suit over our state government ignoring the rule of federal immigration law?  Federal drug law?

The litigants apparently court shopped to the Ninth Circuit Federal Court in the Northern District of California where they felt they’d get a favorable ruling.  The lawsuit seeks an injunction to prevent the President from shifting billions of dollars from military construction to the border without explicit congressional approval. The suit also asks a court to declare the President’s actions illegal and  includes allegations that Trump is violating the National Environmental Policy Act by planning to build a wall that could impact the environment.

During a news conference at the White house on Friday Trump predicted that a lawsuit would be filed in the Ninth Circuit Court saying “So the order is signed and I’ll sign the final papers as soon as I get into the Oval Office.  And we will have a national emergency and we will then be sued, and they will sue us in the Ninth Circuit even though it shouldn’t be there, and we will possibly get a bad ruling, and then we’ll get another bad ruling, and then we’ll end up in the Supreme Court and hopefully we’ll get a fair shake and we’ll win in the Supreme Court just like the ban. They sued us in the Ninth Circuit and we lost, and then we lost in the Appellate Division, and then we went to the Supreme Court and we won”.

Senior White House adviser Stephen Miller told Fox News Sunday that a substantial border wall should be completed by September 2020 because of the emergency declaration.  He said “The problem with the statement that you’re ‘apprehending 80 or 90 percent of drugs at ports of entry that’s like saying you apprehend most contraband at (TSA) checkpoints at airports.  You apprehend the contraband there because that’s where you have the people, the screeners.  I assure you if we had screeners of that same density across every single inch and mile of the southern border, you’d have more drugs interdicted in those areas”.  In response to claims that the president was unconstitutionally taking power from Congress Miller told Fox News that the National Emergencies Act includes an express grant of power from the legislature to the Executive Branch and includes dispute mechanisms in case Congress disagrees with the president’s use of his authority.  “The statute is clear on its own terms” Miller said. “Congress has appropriated money for construction of border barriers consistently.  This is part of the national security.”

How is it that just months after the 17th anniversary of the 9/11/2001 terror attacks on America when Democratic politicians attended memorials saying they’d never forget they’ve apparently forgotten.  The attack by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda killed almost 3,000 people, injured over 6,000 others and caused at least $10 billion in property damage.

In Europe with it’s open borders the years 2014 to 2016 saw more than 20 fatal terrorist attacks – more than all previous years combined and the highest rate of attack plots per year.  In 2017 a total of 62 people were killed in ten completed terror attacks in Europe and an additional 33 plots were thwarted.  victims-of-a-shooting-attack-lay-on-the-pavement-outside-la

Along our 2,000 mile southern border drug cartels, gangs and other criminals easily make their way back and forth between Mexico and the U.S.  Drug trafficking, human smuggling, weapons trafficking and other serious crimes happen every day.  Thankfully despite the lack of cooperation from states like New Jersey ICE continues to work hard to protect the American people.  According to ICE’s Fiscal Year 2018 Report ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations made 158,581 arrests in fiscal year 2018.  This represents an increase over the two previous years and the highest number since FY 2014.  ICE made 15,111 more arrests in FY 2018 than in FY 2017 which is a 11% increase.  The largest percentage of aliens arrested by ICE are convicted criminals (66 percent), followed by immigration violators with pending criminal charges at the time of their arrest (21 percent). In FY 2018, ERO arrested 138,117 aliens with criminal histories
(convicted criminal and pending criminal charges)

I’ve not heard anyone oppose legal immigration.  Our country has a long history of being a melting pot of legal immigrants who have made us the greatest nation on earth.  There are legal avenues to U.S. citizenship.  Sneaking over the border or staying past the expiration of a visa are not legal paths to citizenship.  Illegal immigrants have not been vetted and cannot work legally in the United States.  Those who employ them are also breaking the law.  Illegal immigration is a danger to American citizens and a drain on our economy.  We cannot allow open borders and we cannot allow immigrants to come to America without vetting.

Let us also not forget that prominent Democrats across the county for years have said there is a crisis on our southern border and even voted for the Secure Fence Act of 2006.  It was only when then Presidential Candidate Trump made securing out southern border a campaign issue that Democrats suddenly changed their minds.  President Trump is trying to protect the American people. Democrats are putting Americans in danger for no other reason then to oppose this President.

It is Grewal’s comment “President who refuses to adhere to the rule of law” comment that has me the most angry this morning.  When Grewal, Murphy and the New Jersey Legislature begin adhering to the rule of federal law they can criticize President Trump.  Until then they are hypocrites.
