NJ Governor Murphy’s social media feeds have been very active touting his first year “accomplishments”.

While New Jersey Governor Murphy and his family are spending their Christmas vacation in Tanzania his Facebook and Twitter feeds were very active Thursday.  Murphy’s accounts sent out a series of posts touting his first year “accomplishments”.  I don’t believe most New Jerseyans consider any part of Murphy’s agenda “accomplishments”.  Murphy’s vision continues to be wrong for New Jersey.  Expect Murphy to double down in 2019 including pushing for “legalized” marijuana, a $15 minimum wage and driver licenses for illegal immigrants.  Also expect New Jersey to begin to resemble Detroit as Murphy pushes the revenue generators, job creators and law abiding citizens of the state.

We don’t know if it was Murphy posting or a member of his staff but here are some of the  first year “accomplishments” Murphy’s social media accounts bragged about.

On Criminal Justice Reform Murphy’s feed read “Our Administration is committed to criminal justice reform as a cornerstone of a #StrongerFairerNJ#FirstYearNJ

Criminal Justie Reform

As the chief executive of New Jersey the law abiding citizens of the state expect the Governor to keep us safe and direct the Attorney General to enforce the law.  We want a Governor and Attorney General who are tough on crime.  Making sentencing guidelines easier on criminals is not keeping the people of New Jersey safe.  Murphy has also said he’d like to keep offender’s criminal records from potential employers making workplaces in New Jersey less safe.

On Gun Safety Murphy’s feed read “Gun violence takes more than an emotional toll on our communities – it costs our state’s economy roughly $1.2 billion annually. The sweeping gun safety measures we signed into law this year make NJ a leader in the fight for common sense gun safety. #StrongerFairerNJ #FirstYearNJ.

Gun Safety

New Jersey currently has among the most restrictive gun laws in the country and if Governor Murphy has his way they will get even tougher.  Murphy has vowed to make New Jersey the national leader in gun control.  Criminals by definition do not obey the law including gun laws.  We’ve had gun control laws on the books for many years and they have not stopped criminals from obtaining firearms or committing crimes.  Gun control laws only apply to law abiding citizens who purchase firearms legally.  Murphy’s gun control laws only serve to make those who purchased their guns legally under then New Jersey law potential felons.  New Jerseyans are being denied the right to exercise their Second Amendment rights.  New Jersey’s strict gun laws only serve to restrict the ability of law abiding gun owners to protect themselves and their families and do nothing to curb gun violence.

Comments on Healthcare appear to be shared from the Facebook feed of Lt Governor Sheila Oliver.  “From expanding access to medical marijuana to lowering health care premiums on the individual market by over nine percent, our Administration believes every New Jerseyan should have access to quality, affordable health care. #StrongerFairerNJ#FirstYearNJ

Healthcare

The “Affordable” Healthcare Act, better known as Obamacare is failed legislation that has been ruled unconstitutional by a federal court.  According to Time Magazine as of 2016 insurance premiums had increased an average of 50% since the ACA became law.  In 2006 high deductibles were the minority: 10% of covered workers had deductible of at least $1,000 per the Kaiser Family Foundation.  As of 2016 high-deductible plans had become standard: 51% of all covered workers and 65% of workers in small firms had deductibles of at least $1,000. Additionally workers at smaller firms paid an average of $2,069 out of pocket before insurance payments kick in.

In 2018 the United States Congress repealed the Obamacare individual mandate.  Apparently Murphy thinks his powers as Governor of New Jersey supersede Congress as he reinstated the individual mandate effective January 1, 2019.  Murphy is doubling down on failed legislation.

Comments on Social Justice were also shared from the Facebook feed of Lt Governor Sheila Oliver “Our strength is in our diversity. From appointing the most diverse cabinet in state history to expanding LGBT rights, our Administration remains steadfast in upholding equal rights for all. #StrongerFairerNJ #FirstYearNJ

Social Justice

I applaud any efforts to make New Jersey’s leadership more diverse.  Where I take issue with Murphy’s social justice agenda is spending New Jersey tax dollars on relief in Puerto Rico and challenging the federal government’s authority.  Again Murphy seems to not realize where his powers end.

New Jersey is a state in financial crisis and Murphy’s out of control spending on his social agenda ($2.1 million for the legal defense of illegal immigrants facing detention deportation for example) is taking us further into crisis.  Disaster relief in Puerto Rico is the responsibility of the Puerto Rican government and the United States government – not the tax payers of New Jersey.  New Jersey tax payers cannot afford to take on the responsibility of  Puerto Rico’s disaster relief.

The areas where Murphy brags that he “Challenged President Trump’s actions” are areas where his authority as Governor does not trump (pun intended) the authority of the federal government.  Murphy is spending his time and our tax dollars in his battle against President Trump instead of serving the people of New Jersey as he swore to do.

On Immigration Murphy’s feed read “New Jersey is a state of immigrants, and our strength comes from our diversity. Our Administration will continue to support New Jersey’s DREAMers and push back against President Trump’s dangerous policies toward immigrants. #StrongerFairerNJ #FirstYearNJ “

Immigration

Murphy is being disingenuous.  No one denies that New Jersey is a diverse state.  No one is complaining about immigrants who came to the United States legally.  The issue that many New Jerseyans have is Murphy’s protection of illegal immigrants.  By making New Jersey a sanctuary state Murphy made New Jersey less safe for law abiding citizens.  In a recent operation ICE arrested 105 immigrants in 16 New Jersey counties in a 5 day period.  According to ICE about 80% of them had prior criminal convictions.  Several of them are wanted by Interpol for crimes in their home countries.  Some of those arrested had reentered the U.S. illegally after being deported and several were members of gangs including MS-13.

The criminal records of those arrested in ICE’s latest raid in New Jersey include international warrants and convictions for indecent acts by compulsion causing bodily injury, distribution of psychotropic drugs, fraud, forcible touching of a child, distribution of narcotics, prostitution with a child, endangering the welfare of a child, distribution of narcotics on school grounds, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, possession and distribution of narcotics, bank fraud, criminal sexual contact, conspiracy to commit robbery and suspicion of being a member of a street gang.  This ICE operation demonstrates that Murphy and Attorney General Grewal’s sanctuary rules are protecting criminals and making New Jersey less safe.

With our state in financial crisis New Jersey’s tax payers cannot afford the financial burden of illegal immigration.  According to a report by the Center for Immigration Studies 63% of non U.S. citizens are on welfare programs as compared to 35% of native households .  That equates to over 4.6 million immigrant households on welfare programs in the U.S.  The number grows to 70% percent for those in the U.S. for 10 years or longer,  The data was analyzed from 2014 census numbers.  The data includes illegal immigrants, long-term temporary visitors like guest workers and permanent residents who have not naturalized.  The study found that about half of immigrants on welfare programs are in the U.S. illegally.

While you may think that illegal immigrants cannot participate in welfare programs non-citizens, including illegal immigrants, can receive benefits on behalf of their U.S.-born children.  These children are U.S. citizens at birth and fully eligible for welfare programs.

Murphy’s power as Governor does not supersede immigration federal law.   Thankfully ICE continues to protect the people of New Jersey while Murphy and Grewal do not.

Gov Murphy

Murphy needs to be provided a copy of the United States Constitution.  Specifically Article VI, Paragraph 2 commonly knows as the Supremacy Clause.  It establishes that the federal constitution and federal law generally take precedence over state laws and even state constitutions. It prohibits states from interfering with the federal government’s exercise of its constitutional powers and from assuming any functions that are entrusted to the federal government.  Murphy’s powers as Governor of New Jersey do not trump (pun intended) federal law.

Not only is Murphy’s vision for New Jersey wrong he is costing the law abiding tax payers of New Jersey and making our state less safe.  His personal war with the Trump Administration is is putting our state on a dangerous path.  I see many New Jerseyans on social media planning to leave or asking the question “should I leave or stay and fight?”.  Murphy has only been in office for a year.  Where will New Jersey be at the conclusion of his term?
