Immigrant rights activists demonstrate in Trenton for a bill to allow driver licenses for undocumented immigrants.

Over 100 immigrants rights activists lead by the organization Let’s Drive NJ demonstrated in Trenton today to give illegal undocumented immigrants the right to driver licenses in New Jersey.  During his gubernatorial campaign Governor Murphy said that he’d work towards providing driver licenses and statewide ID to undocumented immigrants.  Former Governor Christie said that granting driver licenses to undocumented immigrants was a homeland security issue and that he would veto any bill that granted driver licenses to undocumented immigrants.

According to the Let’s Drive NJ web site the organization brings together nearly seventy community, faith, labor, social service and advocacy organizations to push to expand access to drivers’ licenses in New Jersey to undocumented illegal immigrants.  Let’s Drive NJ continues to rally citizens and lawmakers in support of granting driver licenses to illegal undocumented immigrants.

The New Jersey Safe and Responsible Driver Act (A1738) introduced by Democratic Assemblywoman Annette Quijano in 2018 would allow those who cannot meet documentation requirements to obtain a driver license.  The bill would allow for 446,000 undocumented immigrants in New Jersey to get driver licenses.

Why are the Murphy administration and Democratic lawmakers in Trenton more focused on undocumented illegal immigrants than the safety and security of legal New Jersey residents?  By making New Jersey a sanctuary state and granting driver licenses New Jersey will attract illegal undocumented immigrants from around the county.  These people are in the United States illegally and have no rights.  They should be arrested and deported.  Additionally legal New Jersey residents have to abide by the 6-point ID verification program.  How are illegal undocumented immigrants going to comply?

Let’s remember that in a recent 5 day ICE operation that resulted in 105 arrested 80% of those arrested had prior criminal convictions.  Several of them are wanted by Interpol for crimes in their home countries.  Some of those arrested had reentered the U.S. illegally after being deported and several were members of gangs including MS-13.  ICE’s latest raid in New Jersey included arrests of those with international warrants and convictions for indecent acts by compulsion causing bodily injury, distribution of psychotropic drugs, fraud, forcible touching of a child, distribution of narcotics, prostitution with a child, endangering the welfare of a child, distribution of narcotics on school grounds, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, possession and distribution of narcotics, bank fraud, criminal sexual contact, conspiracy to commit robbery and suspicion of being a member of a street gang.  Murphy, Attorney General Grewal and the Democratic legislature are protecting criminals and making New Jersey less safe.

Are you mad yet New Jersey?  Are you angry that New Jersey is now a sanctuary state?  Are you angry that New Jersey’s law enforcement officers are no loner allowed to cooperate with ICE agents enforcing federal immigration laws?  Are you angry that Governor Murphy set aside $2.1 million from the state’s general fund to pay the legal fees of illegal immigrants facing detention and deportation?  Are you angry that illegal undocumented immigrants would get driver licenses under proposed legislation?  Are you angry that Murphy, Grewal and the Democratic legislature are putting illegal undocumented immigrants before legal New Jersey residents?

It’s time that the law abiding resident of New Jersey who love our state unite and elect representatives who will put us first!
