Steve Kush, who writes for the Bob & Steve Show blog always adds his humorous twist to South Jersey politics and keeps readers entertained. Today it’s Cumberland GOP Chairman Michael Testa and Gloucester County GOP Chairwoman Jacci Vigilante who made me laugh in their press releases welcoming Menendez to South Jersey while pointing out serious issues plaguing the southern part of the state.
In response to Menendez’s visit Cumberland County Republican Chairman Michael Testa said “The Senator’s driver probably got directions to Vineland from Bob Hugin”.
Menendez finally realizes South Jersey exists after a quarter of a century in DC
VINELAND – Cumberland County Regular Republican Organization Chairman Michael Testa, upon learning the Vineland Municipal Democratic Committee is hosting an event with U.S. Senator Bob Menendez today, welcomed the scandal-plagued Senator to Cumberland County.
“I congratulate the Vineland Municipal Democratic Committee on getting Senator Menendez to realize there is a southern portion of the state,” CCRRO Chairman Michael Testa said, “The Senator’s driver probably got directions to Vineland from Bob Hugin.”
“This is Menendez’s first visit to Cumberland County in contrast to Bob Hugin who has been here many times over the course of this campaign.” Testa continued, “I hope Menendez pays close attention after he gets off Route 55 and looks out the window at all the closed businesses.”
Testa added, “Perhaps after realizing that decades of single party rule has devastated Cumberland County with high unemployment, rising crime rates and taxes the highest they’ve ever been Senator Menendez can explain to us why he has done nothing to help South Jersey and Cumberland County since arriving in Washington, DC in 1993.”
“Of course, Menendez will argue he helped get money for New Jersey after Superstorm Sandy, but the truth is Governor Chris Christie led the charge on that,” Testa said. “So, thanks for coming to Cumberland County Senator, it is truly unfortunate that it took the fact that you just realized you need South Jersey to try to win re-election to make you pay attention to the lower end of the state after a quarter of a century in DC. Welcome to Cumberland County and enjoy your stay.”
In response to Menendez’s visit Gloucester County Republican Chairwoman Jacci Vigilante asked, “Did someone buy Senator Menendez a map?”
Vigilante: “Every woman should think twice before casting a vote for Menendez.”
MULLICA HILL – After learning that an invitation to an event with Bob Menendez in Vineland is circulating on social media, Gloucester County Republican Chairwoman Jacci Vigilante congratulated Menendez for finally finding a map.
Gloucester County Republican Chairwoman Jacci Vigilante asked, “Did someone buy Senator Menendez a map?”
“Someone in the Menendez camp must be seriously worried he’s going to lose,” Vigilante said. “That’s the only way to explain why after an entire campaign of not one single stop in South Jersey, Menendez, in the eleventh hour, is heading south.”
“Hopefully as the Senator looks out the window as he travels down Route 55, he’ll notice lots of farms and realize why we are The Garden State,” Vigilante quipped.
“If Menendez is willing I’ll be more than happy to give him a tour of Gloucester County on his way through,” Vigilante offered. “He’ll learn there’s an important Revolutionary War battlefield in National Park, some very good wineries in Mullica Hill and Logan Township and farms throughout the county, all things he likely doesn’t know given that his lack of attention to Gloucester County during his many years in Washington.”
“Putting politics aside, as a woman, I am offended Bob Menendez, a man who helped secure visas for his buddy’s young girlfriends come to America would show his face in South Jersey to ask for our votes,” Vigilante said. “That incident alone should make every woman think twice before casting a vote for Bob Menendez.”
Vigilante noted that, “While Menendez spent a lot of time and effort helping out his rich donor friend, what effort has he ever made for those of us in South Jersey?”
Personally I believe that if Hugin’s driver did give Menendez directions to South Jersey he did all of us in the southern part of the state a disservice. Same for the person who sold him a map.
It was Kush’s post on the Bob & Steve Show blog titled “Hide Your Daughters And Grab A Protest Sign Because It Looks Like Someone Bought Bob Menendez A GPS And He’s Coming To South Jersey” where I first learned that Menendez is coming to South Jersey. Kush wrote perhaps the best line he’s ever written when in response to a change in the event’s location from a Rodeway Inn to a restaurant he said “This is a change of location from an earlier post that had the event scheduled for the Rodeway Inn. I guess someone realized the optics of Menendez, young women and a cheap motel would not be good”.
You see, Republicans do have a sense of humor!
I only hope that the voters of South Jersey realize that Menendez’s visit 5-days before the election to get votes after years of ignoring the issues facing the southern part of the state is too little too late. We can all assume that if Menendez did not have a strong opponent in Bob Hugin he still wouldn’t know that South Jersey exists.
